“Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have.” ANONYMUS
Today, this quote has made more sense to me than ever before. I woke up this morning feeling like my joy has left me. I lost my mom about 6 weeks ago in a car accident. Ever since that day, my life has literally been a blur. How long does it take to accept the fact that the your best friend and mother is gone? The one who would lay down her life for you in a heart beat if you needed her to.
I was reading in my devotion this morning about joy. It said that you need to make a list of the things that bring you joy. The things that bring you joy are things that you must celebrate and find glory in. Be in the moment about them and be in awe over them. She had us make a list of what brings us joy. Here is my list:
Joy to me is my daughter’s laugh and her sweet kisses and hugs.
Joy to me is my husband singing and dancing to worship music with my daughter
Joy to me is when I hear the garage door open and my husband coming home from his 24 hr shift as a fire-fighter.
Joy to me is the wind blowing in my face. It makes me think of my mother’s hugs.
Joy to me is seeing a hummingbird. My mother loved hummingbirds.
After I wrote these out and marveled in the goodness of them, I headed off to church. God absolutely knew what I needed to read and hear today. The sermon was on having great faith. You can have faith that is easily broken or you can have a faith that is rock solid. In this life, the world is up against us. We have tragedies happen that our out of our control. They can either break our faith or make our faith stronger. Also, we have choices in life. If we are living a life of sin then we can change that and our faith will grow stronger. On the contrary, we can also say that because of our lifestyle we are not going to except our faith. People expect their faith to change everything and if it doesn’t then we tend to loose faith. We must remember that it does not matter what is going on in this world. Our foundation of faith is in one person and one person alone. That person is Jesus Christ. He is the one in Heaven fighting on our behalf. He came to this earth and was tested like we all are. He is the one who died for us so that we can one day be with God and our loved ones. “Seeing then that we have a great High Prirest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” Hebrews 4:14
Today, I have learned that life will always happen. Good things and bad things will continue to affect our lives. We will never know why things happen until it is our time to go and we come face to face with our Lord. I have got to focus on the tings that bring me joy and celebrate them instead of focusing on what I do not have. Jesus Christ is all I need and will ever need. He is my rock and my foundation. He will always take care of me.
